TWO NEW HYDROMATS AT AGNEW TIMBER

A MAJOR fire destroyed the majority of Agnew Timber’s machining capacity late in 2010, including two 80m/min Hydromats and an integrated mechanised line comprising a 100m/min Hydromat 2000 with infeed and outfeed.

Weinig and Irish Weinig agents, High-Tech, stepped in quickly with moulders on loan to keep production moving and replacement machines were then ordered - not only to maintain previous production levels, but to allow for future expansion and greater efficiency.

Agnew Timber of County Cavan, a family owned company was established in 1962 and managed “hands on” by Andrew and Geoffrey Agnew.

The Hydromat 2000 integrated mechanised line comprising infeed chains for packs, tilt hoist with stick remover, an unscrambler
for separating and singling of the boards, and an infeed unit with the latest frequency driven system feeding into the moulder.

They have a proven track record and envious reputation for the manufacture of high quality timber mouldings. The exclusive use of natural timber is a feature of all their products.

The company can cater for all specialised needs, including a profile matching service, bespoke moulding and short run requirements.

State-of–the-art finishing is available in four different products; pre-primed wood, pre-painted wood, pre-stained wood and prevarnished wood, which are now available to purchase online at www.DIYTimberPacks.com for delivery direct to your door.

Agnew works closely with selected mills to maintain quality and consistency. This is achieved by sourcing only quality timber mainly from Finland and from its investment in bespoke stock control which provides traceability from supply to delivery.

A typical initiative by Agnew was the company’s introduction of pre-varnished solid white oak to their product list. It is consistent with Agnew’s philosophy of manufacturing what customers demand. The new Weinig machines ordered and installed earlier this year were: a new 80m/min Hydromat 2000, with nine spindles; a rebuilt Hydromat 23 that had been damaged in the fire; a new 100m/min Hydromat 2000 for the integrated machining line with infeed chains for packs, tilt hoist with stick remover, an unscrambler for separating and singling of the boards and an infeed unit with the latest frequency driven system feeding into the moulder; plus a right angle transfer outfeed belt conveyor with alignment, flat belt cross feeder, bundle building system, four cross banding units, a Unistacker and outfeed chains for finished parts.

All the new and rebuilt moulders were equipped with PowerCom setting systems with setting and profile transfer facilities from the tool-room to the machines.

The new mechanisation and machines are also connected by modem to Weinig Germany, providing instant response to Agnew’s production needs. Weinig high speed Hydromat moulders have enjoyed a unique reputation over very many years for heavy duty moulding and planing. Today they incorporate the new technology of the latest Powermats, running at speeds of up to 100m/min and much more, with working widths of up to 300mm.

In order to guarantee maximum productivity, available equipment includes: straight and profile jointers, outboard bearings for the best surface finish and motor power up to 37 kW (50 hp) for large chip removal.

This machine has a powerful feed system and driven feed rollers, above and under the table, with tilting vertical spindles and feed. When combined with Weinig’s memory system for fast and precise resetting and the PowerCom control for simple and quick changes, the Hydromat is the epitome of fast setting productivity. ‘We have used Weinig machines for many years and have been very impressed with the reliable machine performance and the helpful advice and prompt technical support, both from Weinig and High-Tech,’ says Andrew Agnew.

and Gerry Doherty. High-Tech has been Weinig agents now
for over 21 years.
‘We have had excellent after sales service and naturally looked no further than Weinig for replacement machines after the fire. Our new investment in the latest technology is to ensure that the bespoke customer service we give will be better than ever at highly competitive prices and delivery times,’ he adds. In addition to the impressive technology, Agnew Timber has developed an excellent personal working relationship with High-Tech Machinery who has over 21 years in business, to become among the leading woodworking agents in Ireland.

They offer on-the-spot engineering expertise to provide service and advice when needed throughout Ireland. Add to this the technical knowhow on solid wood processing from Weinig UK and Germany, and you have an unbeatable team to support woodworking customers in Ireland, in all sectors of the industry.
